Planned Parenthood of Western New York Chooses PMG for Its Billing Needs
Buffalo, N.Y., and Pawtucket, R.I., February 23, 2009 – Planned Parenthood of Western New York (PPWNY) announced today it has entered into an agreement to have outsourced medical billing services delivered by PMG, a leading national supplier of revenue cycle management and consulting services to non-profit health centers.

PPWNY’s mission is to provide reproductive and family healthcare, promote responsible and healthy sexuality, and protect choice. The organization offers a variety of reproductive and pediatric health services in these areas to individuals regardless of their age, race, faith or ability to pay.

PPWNY has served a five-county span for over 70 years. In November 2006, Planned Parenthood of Erie and Buffalo County merged with Planned Parenthood of Niagara County to create a larger, stronger Western New York affiliate. This merger increased employment for the agency to over 100 employees.

In making a stronger affiliate, PPWNY was also faced with changes and challenges in its payor mix, billing staff turnover and lack of new billing staff. A/R debt was rising and insurance payor collections were decreasing, prompting the organization to look to an outside firm specializing in the unique payor mix for assistance.

PPWNY executive staff and clinicians had heard Ray Jorgensen, a PMG partner, speak at various billing and coding seminars offered by Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the New York State Department of Health. His expertise motivated PPWNY to initiate talks with PMG to help achieve its billing needs.

“We are proud to have been selected by PPWNY as its outsourced revenue cycle partner and excited at the potential this relationship offers,” said Ray Jorgensen, PMG President. “Our historic work with Planned Parenthood affiliates in more than 40 states m a k e s us well – suited to optimize potential income for PPWNY .

“Further, as we seek to expand our presence as the outsourced revenue cycle management firm of choice to other affiliates and community health centers nationwide, PMG continues to expand its ability to maximize revenue from family planning grants and waivers, vexing Medicaid programs and challenging commercial payors. We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with PPWNY.”

Within six weeks of beginning talks in September 2008, PMG had its billing systems in place with PPWNY. “Without the outstanding customer service and support from PMG’s billing and IT teams, we would not have had the smooth transitional implementation we did,” said Colleen Schiffhauer, Director of Patient Services at PPWNY. “New systems are costly to any organization, and PMG has helped us to implement a comprehensive billing system. We look forward to continue working with PMG and embracing the potential that this relationship offers.”
